Clutter got you down? Are you feeling ineffective and it's not just your 7 year old interrupting you every 5 minutes with a Zoom issue?
I can relate. Everywhere I turn there's another room that needs re-organizing. It can all be so overwhelming! Where to begin?
Here are some steps to get you in the right direction.
1. Tackle Your Closet
Use the 2 Year Method
If you haven't worn it in two years, you probably won't ever wear it! You might find a few things that no longer fit now that many of us have packed on a few pounds. Take this as an opportunity to refresh your wardrobe and think about what truly makes you feel good.
Donate
Donation centers are open once again and there are other resources like Working Wardrobes and New Dimensions that are great for business-attire.
Pick It Up
Re-arrange your clothing with tiered hangers and store shoes on a multi-tiered rack or hanging divider so you get everything off the floor. Use belt hooks, scarf hangars, & hat racks, etc. to keep everything tidy.
2. De-clutter Your Home Office
Discard of Documents Older than 7 Years
Office documents weighing you down? Keep seven years' worth of business-related backup documents to support your tax returns, like final budgets, receipts, and contracts. You can toss non-tax related items such as old conference materials, first drafts of final documents, and outdated business cards and brochures. Better yet, scan them and store them on an external hard drive as a back up.
Just make sure you shred any documents that contain confidential information like account numbers, birthdate, social security number, etc.
Hide Your Cords
Unsightly cords can make any desk look and feel messy.
Create a Mail/Paper Processing Station
Separate incoming and outgoing mail and once a week purge/file any items that no longer need to be there.
Organize your Supplies and Resources
Use binders, cubbies, cabinets to organize your supplies, think pens, highlighters, notepads, etc., into one neat area. Then use the same technique to house any resources like reference binders, emergency information, etc.
3. Kitchen Clean Up
Pantry Organizer
Use clear containers that you can label to store cereals, crackers and snacks. Store items in sections with like items for easy reference.
Turn One Shelf Into Two
Use shelf risers to easily store items without the weight of stacking on top of one another which can cause breakage.
Give Pans a Lift
Store heavy pans, cutting boards, lids, etc. sideways using a storage organizer.
